FAQ

  • What is Bubba’s Fund?

Bubba’s Fund is a donor-advised fund of the La Crosse Area Community Foundation, created in memory of Charlie Lonning Weber (“Bubba”). Our mission is to improve the safety, opportunity, and wellbeing of children — starting in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and growing over time.

  • How can I make a donation?

You can donate through our secure giving portal hosted by the La Crosse Area Community Foundation. One-time and recurring gifts are available, and donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
Learn more on our Donate page.

  • Where does my money go?

Your gift supports Bubba’s Fund’s initiative-based work for children, including:
Initiative 1: Expanding access to AEDs and child safety efforts (starting with state-licensed childcare centers in La Crosse)
Initiative 2: Supporting youth access to sports in our community through our partnership with Rising Athletes
Learn more on our Projects & Impact page.

  • Is Bubba’s Fund a 501(c)(3) non-profit?

Bubba’s Fund is a donor-advised fund, not a standalone 501(c)(3). Donations are made to the La Crosse Area Community Foundation (a qualified 501(c)(3)), which means gifts are tax-deductible as allowed by law and can be directed to support Bubba’s Fund’s initiatives.

  • How can I get involved or volunteer?

We’d love to have you involved. The easiest way to start is our Connect With Us form — tell us what you’re interested in (volunteering, helping promote events, fundraising, or partnering), and our team will follow up.

  • Who was Charlie “Bubba” Lonning Weber?

Charlie (“Bubba”) was the beloved son of Alex Weber and Moran Lonning. Though his life was brief, his story is creating lasting impact through this work — and through a community choosing to show up for kids.

How it connects to our work

Bubba’s Fund is initiative-based. Right now, that means:

  • Initiative 1: Child safety efforts, starting with AED access in state-licensed childcare centers

  • Initiative 2: Youth access to sports through our partnership with Rising Athletes

In time, our structure may evolve — but our focus won’t: improving the lives of children.

To Donate

What’s the story with the DAF (Donor Advised Fund)?

Bubba’s Fund is a donor-advised fund at the La Crosse Area Community Foundation. That means your gift is made through a trusted local 501(c)(3), with oversight and support in place from day one — so we can focus on impact.

Why we chose this structure

Launching as a DAF lets us move quickly and responsibly:

  • Donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law

  • Funds are administered through the La Crosse Area Community Foundation

  • We can partner with local organizations and get resources to kids without delay
